M.V.P. or LeBron VS. Kobe

24 03 2008

So here it is. The two best players in the league (and two of the best ever for that matter) in a race for the M.V.P. Who wins? Chris Paul is amazing this year but I’m not sure he exist in this conversation. My opinion? (The only opinion that counts!) LeBron. And I’ll tell you why.

kobe-lebronI’m a Cleveland fan. If someone else deserves credit for something , I’ll give it to them. I despise Tom Brady. Yet I believe he is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. Kobe is amazing. 81 points!?! Are you kidding me!?! But lets get down to it. Here are three reasons I believe LeBron is M.V.P. and not Kobe.

1. 0-6. That’s what the Cavs are without LeBron This year. You take Kobe out and you have either Bynum (early in the year) or Gasol (later in the year). And the Lakers are still a decent team.  LeBron has a handful of inconsistent teammates who could put up good numbers or no numbers depending on the night. And without LeBron’s leadership during that 6 game stretch he was out, no one stepped up their game. LeBron is more valuable to his team than Kobe is to his.

2. I can understand the argument for the two teams records. But just look at the injury reports for the year. If it wasn’t one person it was another person. And if it wasn’t that, LeBron was hurt or the team goes into a huge trade and 4 of the Cavs main players weren’t used to the offence. For the Lakers, they loose Bynum but have others who have game and are there every night (and then soon after, they get Gasol) If the Cavs were 100% all year and the players knew what was going on, they would be in 3rd place in the east. easily. Maybe even knocking on Detroit’s door.

3. Just look at the stats.

LeBron PPG-30.8  APG-7.3  RPG-8.2

Kobe    PPG-28.3  APG-5.3  RPG-6.2

The only people you can compare LeBron to is Oscar Robinson and Wilt Chamberlain. That’s ridiculous. And look at the last game the Cavs and Lakers played. Who made key DEFENSIVE stops at the end of the game? Who made BIG SHOTS when their team needed them? Just saying…

So let me hear ya! M.V.P.! M.V.P.! M.V.P.! (Go Cavs!)

Brandon – great arguements. i agree with everything but i’ll here’s my response:

i like lbj more and want him to win but

the stats are close (edge to lbj)
the team record isn’t close (edge to kobe)
defense (lbj is getting better but he’s no kobe) (edge to kobe)
age – kobe hasn’t won an mvp yet & that could hurt lbj b/c he’ll win at least 4 in the next 10 yrs.

So my young friend – this yr. it’s kobe but i’ll bet on lbj next year!

Yay!!! I found another Cavs fan. We are far and in between, and at times I feel like I’m out on a limb by msyself. Most people these days like the Lakers, Detroit, or Boston.

Anways, James definitely has my vote!

Do you write primarily about the Cavs, or cover a variety of teams and sports.

Sorry dude, love Lebron, but if there’s any justice in the world then it will be Chris Paul.

He’s playing the PG position at as high a level as it has ever been played at!

Cmon Ari. Paul!?! He’s not even in the conversation! He’s amazing, but as much as I hate Nash, he’s a better PG than Paul. And if the Suns had any clue how to play defense they would pry have a ring or two right now. The Hornets won’t make it past he second round of the playoffs and if they do , it’s rigged because of all the hype surrounding New Orleans right now!

11.6 Assists and 18.6 Pts a game were the most signifcant statistics of Nash’s best year(06-07)…

This year Paul is averaging 11.4 assists and 21.6 Pts. With a lower turnover ratio. With an inferior supporting cast. There is no New Orleans hype to those numbers. They have the best record in the most stacked conference we have seen in FOREVER.

He is the MOST valuable player in the league.

The west is stacked I’ll give you that. Paul is AMAZING! I’ll give you that also. Bron is averaging 31 points a game and only 4 assist less than Paul! Not to mention the 8 boards he’s pulling down every game! And look at the Hornets roster!

West 20 PPG
Stojakovic 16 PPG
Chandler 11.5 PPG

And not to mention 4 other players close to 10 a game. LeBron is pretty much, single handedly willing the Cavs to every single victory they have. The same CAN NOT be said about Paul.
